'Tis the Season!

As we unstuff ourselves of the turkey and goodies of Thanksgiving and prepare for the chilly embrace of December, we also welcome the holiday spirit and cheer that the winter season has to offer.

In 1971, no one was more prepared to celebrate the holidays than Aristotle Onassis when he purchased this stunning suite of jewelry for Jackie Onassis' Christmas present. Having often felt overshadowed by the thoughtfulness that JFK showed Jackie when picking out gifts, Aristotle strived to pick out a perfect gift for Jackie from Van Cleef and Arpels, one of her favorite jewelry boutiques.

The pendant was originally a large opaque emerald centered among 4 carats of diamonds, while the earrings featured an opaque emerald drop below each floral stud. As an added bit of fun and versatility, the earrings come apart so that the floral stud can be worn by itself.

Our replicas are made up of Adventurine stones, Cubic Zirconias and are 24K gold plated. The pendant and earrings are still owned by the Kennedy Foundation, but you can get your very own here in the store at $85 for the pendant and $79 for the earrings.

Did You Know...

Audrey Hepburn won the 1953 Best Actress Academy Award for her role in Roman Holiday, a classic romantic comedy which tells the story of a bored and sheltered princess who escapes her guardians and falls in love with an American newsman in Rome.

Audrey won the role of Princess Ann in Roman Holiday thanks to a legendary screen test. In it, she performed one of the scenes from the film, but the cameraman was instructed to keep the cameras rolling after the director said, "Cut." Several minutes of unrehearsed, spontaneous Hepburn was thus captured on film and this, combined with some candid interview footage, won her the role.

In Roman Holiday, Audrey (as Princess Ann) attends an Embassy Ball in which she is escorted into the room wearing a beautiful gown, crown of jewels, and a pair of dazzling diamond earrings. You can find a replica of these lovely earrings in our Hollywood Collection, which includes replicas of pieces worn by Golden-Era Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Vivien Leigh and Lana Turner.

These Roman Holiday diamond tears retail for $75 and are 11.35 pearshaped CZ carats set in Platinum over Sterling Silver suspended from a round-cut diamond set amid 8 brilliants. The above photos of Audrey as Princess Ann and the replicated earrings can be enlarged by simply clicking on the images.

Our Moment in the Spotlight

Filthy Rich of Boston was recently featured on TV 5's 'Chronicle' for a segment on "Smart Shopping" in the North End and it came out great! You can view the video here - we are featured within the first few minutes. Let us know what you think!

One of the items shown in the video is the Tank Watch from our Jacqueline Kennedy collection. This Cartier-inspired watch was one of Jackie's signature pieces as seen in this widely published photograph taken in 1964 when Jackie was still in mourning for JFK.

The watch features a simple face in a gold-plated setting flanked by 32 white Swarovski crystals, including an emerald crystal in the stem. The quartz movement is made by Seiko Japan, and the straps are genuine leather with an embossed alligator texture and are fully adjustable between 5 1/2 to 8 1/2 inches. Jackie's Tank Watch retails for $80 and looks elegant dressed up or down.

We were also recently a runner up for 'Best Jewelry' for the Weekly Dig 2009 Awards. We want to give a big thank you to everyone who voted for us!

Such featured celebrities include glamorous women of the past like Jacqueline Kennedy, whose collection contains nearly 100 pieces and has been licensed out by the Kennedy Library Foundation, along with Hollywood legends like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn whose families, foundations, and trusts have licensed their beautiful and stately jewelry. We also have a contemporary collection of replicated pieces fashioned after legends-in-the-making like Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway, and Cameron Diaz, who just recently was filming in Boston along with Tom Cruise. Other unique accessories include eco-friendly purses made out of recycled car parts (definitely a conversation piece!) and fashion reading glasses.
